Workers CDV by Thos. Stomum

Nice late 1800s CDV showing two workers jeans and overalls. Image was taken by Thos. Stomum of Vergennes, Illinois. I did a quick search online for him and couldn't find any information.

  1. Great site. Have you ever heard of a work clothes or overall company named 'MAYHEW' that was in Boston?? Thanks!

  2. Dale, I'm away for the weekend, but I'm pretty sure I have some info at home that will help you. When I get back on Monday, I'll get it for you. Have a good holiday weekend. - Mike

  3. Dale-Here's what I have for Mayhew. I found records dating back to 1894 in which William H. Mayhew produced overalls and factory coats. He was formerly with Shaw Brothers & Company. The last record I found in a Boston directory from 1921 has Will W. Mayhew Company as an overall producer. This might have been his son who took over the business. I also found a directory from 18877 noting Arnold & Mayhew manufactured overalls. Other than the two Mayhew's I mentioned, the only other name I could find on a Mayhew record was E.B. Stacey. This was from a 1916 document. Hope this helps.

  4. Wow, great information Mike. I found a set of 'change' type removable buttons at a flea market this past weekend marked Mayhew-Boston and was pretty sure I'd seen a jacket or something in the past with that name. Thanks for your help! Dale
