Happy New Year!

This great piece is the cover of the 1904 Keystone Overall and Pants Memo Book issued by Cleveland & Whitehill Company in Newburgh, New York. I ran it last year and feel it's still worthy of using again for a Happy New Year post. Eventually I'll get around to scanning the inside which is just as impressive as the cover.

Union-Made would like to wish all our readers and their family a Happy New Year. As we approach our one year anniversary of posting in a few days (January 6th), Union-Made looks forward to a bigger and better year in 2013. There's already a pile of new goodies stacked next to the scanner waiting to be put into the system and posted. Thanks for your support and we look forward to a great year.

Early 1900s Welch's Standard Overalls Die-Cut Trade Card

Interesting die-cut trade card for Welch's Standard Overalls, manufactured by the Welch-Cook Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Other than the branding on the front and back of the card, there's no other information. I'd say it's from the early 1900s. Some time after 1906, which is when Welch-Cook started producing their Standard Overalls. For more information on Welch-Cook Company check out a previous post I did on them here.

Large Can't Bust 'Em Overalls Paper Label

I'm not quite sure how the Eloesser-Heynemann Company, makers of Can't Bust 'Em Overalls, originally used these labels. Because of the size, perhaps they were used on boxes or maybe just for in-store display. There's no date or manufacturing information present, but I'd date the piece being from the 1920s or 1930s.

1940s Big Jack Manufacturing Co. Ink Blotter

Big Jack Manufacturing Company ink blotter from around the mid to late 1940s. The image of the strong man up top was trademarked in 1943. The company was founded in 1905 by John S. 1896 Carter & Churchill Company, Lebanon Overalls Invoice

Great invoice from Carter & Churchill Company dated September 26. 1896. Carter & Churchill were the manufacturers of Lebanon Overalls as well as other work and sporting clothes. This invoice is for goods sold to the Doe Brothers in Bradford, Vermont. The Doe Brothers were watch and jewelry merchants who also sold ready made clothing. I like how The Old Man on the Mountain was incorporated into the invoice. This geographical feature was first seen by surveyors in 1805 and unfortunately collapsed in 2003. It became part of the New Hampshire state emblem in 1945.

September 1928 Homespun Overalls Catalog

Homespun Overalls catalog from September 1928. Homespun was a product of the Globe Manufacturing Company in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. I'm not sure if Globe's intention was to make the catalog appear homemade, but the crude drawings certainly make it feel that way.

1925-26 Crown Overalls Railroad Time Book

This 1925-26 Crown Overalls Railroad Time Book came along with the Big 3 Overalls memo book I posted yesterday. Just like that book, this one also shows some pretty good use from its original owner. This book has a great double page ad for the Crown Adjust-Alls in the back. The company called them "The Most Practical Invention in All Overall History."

Circa 1926 Big 3 Overalls Memo Book

I recently picked up this great memo book from The Levy Overall Manufacturing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were the makers of Big 3 Overalls. I was going to clean it up in Photoshop before posting it, but thought the amount of use just added to its character. The book has a number of illustrations in it. It is undated. but the original owner started filling it out in 1926.

1908 J.M. Robinson, Norton & Co. Salesman Postcard

J.M. Robinson, Norton & Company, manufacturers of Tiger Brand work clothes, salesman's postcard postmarked June 8, 1908 out of Louisville, Kentucky. It's interesting to see how the salesman's name, Tim M. Russell and company, Bowman & Russell were printed on this card. Usually the salesman just wrote his name and date on the card when he'd be visiting.
