1886 Wellington Cross Advertising Flyer with Sweet, Orr & Co.

Nice advertising flyer from March 1886 issued by Wellington Cross of Fultonville, NY. From what I could find, Wellington Cross was a general merchandise store. The key to this piece is on the reverse side where you'll find an ad for the Orr Pantaloon Overall from Sweet, Orr & Co.

Below is the original envelope the flyer was mailed in.

Circa 1891 Newburgh Never Rip Overalls and Pants Salesman's Calling Card

Keeping in line with yesterday's post, today we have another calling card/postcard from salesman, J.C. Detweiler. On this piece he's dealing Newburgh Never Rip Overalls, Pants and Coats. While the card doesn't say it, I'm almost 100% certain that this product was produced by the makers of Keystone Overalls, Cleveland & Whitehill. The postcard, like yesterday's is addressed to McKinney Bros. This one is being sent to their other location in Plain Grove, PA. The card is postmarked November 4th and what looks like Allegheny, PA.

1891 Sweet, Orr & Co. Salesman's Calling Card

1891 Sweet, Orr & Company salesman's calling card/postcard postmarked Smethport, Pennsylvania January 25th. The Sweet, Orr salesman was J.C. Detweiler who also sold Keystone Overalls made by Cleveland & Whitehill. I have a Keystone calling card which will show this as well as being address to the same company (McKinney) show below. I'm not positive, but I also think he went on to work as the assistant secretary for the Bureau of Workers Compensation in the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

Railroad Engineer & Son Cabinet Photo by A.W. Judd - Carhartt Overalls

Amazing cabinet photo by A.W. Judd (1846-1929), Chattanooga, Tennessee. The subject matter alone makes this a great photo, but what makes it even better is the Carhartt heart shaped button on the engineer's overalls. Carhartt used this style button from 1900-1930. Judd established his Chattanooga photography studio in 1877 at 828 Market Street. More of Judd's work can be found at the Southeast Tennessee Digital Archive.

Newell Manufacturing Co. Tailor Fitting Overalls

Advertising card from the Newell Manufacturing Company. No date, but probably from the late 1890s or early 1900s. Not to much information on the company. I did find out that it was previously known as the Waverly Manufacturing Company and was established in 1883. F.M. Newell is from on of the earliest families in the state of Pennsylvania. I wonder if this is Newell's actually signature at the bottom of the card?

Burbank's Standard Overalls

Great little piece of marketing from Burbank's Standard Overalls made by Burbank Manufacturing Company in Nashua, New Hampshire. There's no date on the piece, but it's from the early 1900s. The company was founded in 1901 and became the Buxton Garment Manufacturing Company around 1918.

"The Mechanic" Overalls, Shirts and Pants - Marcus Loeb & Company

Advertising card for "The Mechanic" Overalls, Shirts and Pants manufactured by Marcus Loeb & Company in Atlanta, Georgia. There's no date on the card, but I'd place it in the early 1920s. The card is blank backed. Marcus Loeb founded his company in 1899.

Judging from the piece below, I assume being located in Atlanta gave Marcus Loeb the opportunity to do work for the Coca-Cola Company. I found this on Coca-Cola Conversations.

Sweet, Orr & Co. Receipt Envelope

Nice little Sweet, Orr & Co., receipt envelope from Willner Bros., in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. No date on the piece, but I'd say from around the late 1890's from the pricing of the Special Yellow Ticket $1.50 Trousers. I've seen similar pricing in ads from 1895. I really like the company's marketing slogan of "Look For The Name On The Buttons."

1924 Nuff Stuff Overalls and Shirts Advertising Postcard

Interesting advertising postcard for Nuff Stuff Overalls and Shirts from 1924. Wonder what the marketing folks at Hartmann-Schneider Company were thinking when they came up with this piece? Looks like the guy is stealing a chicken. This piece has nice crossover appeal as a black americana collectible.
